When I first received photos of this guitar, I thought I was daydreaming. A 1930s Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe is a rare guitar in its own right. Finding one here in Europe, professionally converted yet still in such original condition? That felt like a dream coming true.

1935 is a fantastic year for the Stage Deluxe. Guitars from this era feature a slightly tapered body depth, measuring approximately 11.5 cm at the endpin and 10.6 cm at the neck heel. The nut width is 52 mm, and the neck has a pronounced V profile that feels every bit as substantial as you would hope.

Sound-wise, the Smeck is loud, clear, big, and articulate. The combination of its body dimensions, substantial neck, and 12-fret construction gives it a voice that is seldom heard from other guitars. It has a remarkable presence, with plenty of power and clarity, yet retains an openness that makes every note speak beautifully.

Thankfully, this guitar has undergone very few changes throughout its 91 years. Aside from one replacement bridge pin, reproduction tuners, an added strap pin, and a jack socket mounted on the bottom side, it remains remarkably original. There are small touch-ups on both sides of the fretboard where it meets the top, but otherwise, the original finish remains intact and vibrant.

What surprised me most, though, is how few cracks this guitar has. After all these years, it has survived in truly remarkable condition. What a wonder.

So, here is your chance to own a beautiful and rare Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe with a voice like an angel.
