This is definitely one of the best '40s Gibson acoustics I have ever heard.

During the war years, material shortages often meant departures from the classic spruce-top/mahogany-body recipe, and many guitars left the factory without an adjustable truss rod. That makes 1946 such a special and highly sought-after year for players looking for the sound and feel of the wartime Gibsons, but with the practicality of a truss rod and more consistent specifications.

Although the famous Banner logo had disappeared by then, these script-logo Gibsons were still built in Kalamazoo by many of the same skilled craftsmen and women who had produced the legendary Banner-era instruments. In many ways, 1946 combines the best of both worlds.

While the spruce top retains its original finish, the mahogany back, sides, and neck have been refinished. A few professionally repaired scratches are visible on the back of the guitar. The neck is huge, full, and substantial, contributing significantly to the guitar's powerful voice and resonance.

Tonally, this guitar is simply exceptional. It is remarkably balanced, with a deep, rich low end that never becomes muddy, complemented by clear mids and open, airy highs. It responds to every nuance of your playing, is highly dynamic, and offers impressive sustain.
