Offered here is an early 1969 Laney Supergroup MK1 100 Watt, one of the desirable first-generation examples featuring the hand-written serial number.

Finding an original MK1 today is becoming increasingly difficult. Many lived hard lives on the road, were heavily modified over the decades, or simply disappeared. This example has survived remarkably well.

The amplifier remains original throughout, with the exception of the four back panel screws. There are also two tiny holes from a previously fitted non-original mains connector. It has since been fitted with a period-style Bulgin connector once again, preserving its vintage appearance. Cosmetically it is in good condition for an amp that old. One vent is partially broken and some rips in the tolex can be found. Most importantly, all transformers are original. The amplifier has also been freshly serviced and is ready for many more years of reliable use. Circuit photos will be sent by request.

While comparisons with vintage Marshalls are inevitable, the Supergroup has a personality entirely its own. There is enormous authority in the low end, a wonderfully vocal midrange, and an aggressive top end that never becomes harsh. The amp reacts beautifully to your picking dynamics, cleaning up surprisingly well from the guitar's volume control before exploding into thick, harmonically rich overdrive as you lean into it.

It is not difficult to understand why Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath built his signature sound around these amplifiers. The Supergroup has that unmistakable combination of weight, punch, and sustain, yet remains articulate enough for every note of a chord to shine through.
