Here is an extraordinary early ’70s Strat!

You’ll often hear that if you find a truly good 1971–1974 Stratocaster, it can be one of the best guitars for the money you will ever buy. This is exactly that kind of guitar.

Offered here is a 1974 Fender Stratocaster in 3-Tone Sunburst with a maple neck, carrying very desirable 1973-style specs. It has the black-bottom pickups with staggered pole pieces, 1973-dated pots, and weighs only 3.18 kg with the tremolo arm installed — an incredible weight for this period.

Early ’70s Strats are becoming more and more sought after, and the right ones really deserve the attention. The black-bottom pickups are a big part of that appeal — exactly the kind of feature you want to see on a great ’73-spec Strat. They bring that open, lively, glassy Strat tone with plenty of attack and character. It is also one of those rare Strats where all five positions truly sound great.

This guitar was sold by our friends at GuitarPoint over 10 years ago, and even back then they commented on how good it sounded. That says a lot, because this is not just a clean vintage piece — it is a genuinely great player with tons of mojo.

At some point, other tuners were installed. The holes have since been closed and are barely visible, as the original tuners cover them. A ground wire was added across the pots. It can easily be removed, but in practice it is a positive and useful addition. The original 3-way switch is still intact.

The original frets are still in good usable shape and have plenty of life left in them.

The guitar has that wonderful played-in feel you want from a real vintage Strat. It is light, resonant, immediate, and simply inspiring. The kind of guitar that explains very well why good early ’70s Strats are becoming more and more sought after.

Comes with its original case in used condition, missing the logo — with as much mojo as the guitar itself.
