What a great-sounding Mesa/Boogie Mark IIC+ we have here.
This amplifier started its life as an SR type, built for the US market. Most likely in 1987, it was sent back to Mesa/Boogie and received an export transformer, making it an SRX type. Importantly, this is not a Mark IIC that was later converted to IIC+—the serial number falls well within the original IIC+ production range.
Inside, the amplifier presents very nicely and appears completely stock. It is equipped with the legendary Electro-Voice EVM12L, which performs beautifully and gives the amp an enormous, solid sound.
While the Mark IIC+ is often associated with the EQ-equipped versions, I have always found the non-EQ examples particularly interesting. Without the graphic EQ in the signal path, the amplifier has a wonderfully direct character, and the cleans are among the nicest I have heard from a Mark series Mesa/Boogie. They are big, clear, three-dimensional, and extremely responsive, while the overdrive has all the authority and sustain one expects from a great IIC+.
The amplifier is housed in a beautiful Honduran mahogany cabinet, which looks fantastic and gives the whole package a very special presence.
A superb-sounding Mark IIC+ in a particularly desirable configuration, complete with a flight case.
